Apex Health: Sleep & Recovery

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 26, 2026

This policy covers the Apex Health: Sleep & Recovery app for iPhone and Apple Watch, including its widgets and Live Activities. It explains exactly what data the app touches, where that data lives, and what we will never do with it.

1. Who we are

Apex Health: Sleep & Recovery ("the app") is built by Truestep Solutions ("we", "us"), a service based software company in India that also publishes our own apps. Contact: hello@truestepsolutions.in.

2. Health data the app reads

With your explicit permission through Apple Health (HealthKit), the app may read the following categories to compute your recovery, strain, sleep, stress, and energy scores, your daily verdict, and your Apex Age estimate:

• Activity and workouts: steps, active and resting energy, exercise time, workout sessions and routes, training load, VO2 Max
• Heart: heart rate, resting heart rate, heart rate variability, ECG recordings, irregular rhythm and AFib history notifications, blood pressure
• Sleep: sleep stages, time in bed, wrist temperature during sleep
• Respiratory: respiratory rate, blood oxygen
• Metabolic: blood glucose (from a connected CGM or manual entries)
• Body: weight, body composition measurements
• Cycle tracking data, where you choose to share it
• Environment: headphone audio levels, time in daylight
• State of Mind entries

You choose which categories to grant in the Apple Health permission screen, and the app works with whatever subset you allow. You can change or revoke any permission at any time in the Health app under Sharing.

3. Health data the app writes

When you log a drink, the app saves that amount to Apple Health on your device as water intake, so your hydration record stays complete and portable. Water intake from the drinks you log is the only thing the app writes to Apple Health. Everything else you record in the app, such as journal entries, tags, and day statuses, stays in the app's own local storage on your device and is never written into your Health record.

4. Where your data lives

All health data stays in Apple Health and in the app's local storage on your device. We operate no backend for your data: there is no Truestep account database, no cloud copy of your metrics, and no server that ever sees your health information. If you use Apple's own iCloud sync for Apple Health, that sync is between you and Apple under Apple's terms; we are not part of it.

A small snapshot of your latest scores (for example, today's recovery number) is shared between the app, its widgets, and the watch app through an Apple app group container on your device, solely so widgets and your watch can display current values. This snapshot never leaves your device.

One small exception uses Apple's iCloud key-value storage, part of your own iCloud account and not any Truestep server. When you delete a logged drink, the app remembers that deletion by storing a short list of anonymous identifiers (random codes with no health data, no meaning outside the app, and no way to identify you) so the item cannot reappear after you reinstall the app or restore from a backup. This list is capped in size, contains only these deletion markers, and is governed by Apple's iCloud terms. You can wipe it by turning off iCloud Drive for the app or signing out of iCloud.

5. On-device intelligence

The coach and the daily brief it writes run on Apple's on-device foundation models and the device's neural hardware. Your questions to the coach, its answers, and the health data it reads to answer them are processed on the device and are not transmitted to us or to any third party.

6. Camera and drink scanning

The camera is used only when you open the drink scanner, where you point it at a drink or at the label on its container so the app can estimate how much you drank and add it to your hydration total. Frames are analyzed live on the device and are immediately discarded. The app does not capture, store, or upload photos, and nothing from the camera ever leaves your device. The scanner reads drinks and drink labels only; it does not recognize food, and the nutrition figures the app displays are read from Apple Health rather than from the camera.

7. Location

Location access is "While Using the App" only. With your permission, the app uses your approximate location to show local weather, sunrise and sunset times, and the UV index, as described in section 8. It never requests always on or background location, and it does not follow you when it is closed.

The app does not record routes. It runs no route tracking of its own during a workout or at any other time. Where the app shows a map for a workout, that route was recorded by the Apple Watch or the other app that saved the workout, and the app simply reads it from Apple Health. Location data is never sent to our servers, because we have none.

8. The only network request the app makes

The app makes exactly one kind of network request, to a single public service, free of any personal identifier:

• Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com): the app sends approximate coordinates to fetch current and recent local weather, sunrise and sunset times, and the UV index, so it can show conditions and raise your hydration goal on hot days. No identifier accompanies the request, and it is sent only when you have granted location access.

There is no other outbound request of any kind. Like any web request, that service technically receives the requesting IP address. We send it nothing about you, and the app includes no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs of any kind.

9. Notifications

Reminders such as morning readiness, hydration nudges, wind-down alerts, and weekly reports are local notifications, scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. They do not involve a push server.

10. What we will never do

• We will never sell, rent, or share your personal or health data.
• We will never use health data for advertising, marketing, or similar purposes, in line with Apple's HealthKit guidelines.
• We will never use your data to train machine learning models.
• We will never add third party analytics or tracking to the app.

11. Data retention, export, and deletion

Because your data lives on your device and in Apple Health, you are in full control:

• Export: the app can export the data it stores locally as JSON or CSV at any time, covering your journal, day statuses, tags, Apex Age history and offline drink log. Health readings themselves live in Apple Health, which offers its own full export.
• Delete specific data: remove individual entries in the Health app, or revoke the app's permissions under Health, Sharing.
• Delete everything: deleting the app removes the app's local storage and its snapshot container. Data previously saved to Apple Health remains yours in the Health app and can be deleted there. The anonymous deletion markers described in section 4 live in your own iCloud and are cleared by turning off iCloud Drive for the app or signing out of iCloud.

We hold nothing on our side to delete.

12. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The app collects no personal information from anyone, but it is intended for adults managing their own health and fitness.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, data protection law such as India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act or the GDPR may give you rights of access, correction, deletion, and portability. Because the app keeps your data on your device, you can exercise all of these directly, as described in section 11. For anything else, contact us and a human will reply.

14. Changes to this policy

If our practices change, we will update this page, revise the effective date above, and where a change is material, tell you inside the app before it takes effect. We will never change the fundamentals quietly: on-device processing, no sale of data, and no advertising are permanent commitments.
